Who thinks all good Dutch hiphop comes from large cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam probably has shit for ears. For years now the best groups come from cities you’d least expect. For example take Opgezwolle from Zwolle and now Zo Moeilijk from Nijmegen. The recent record Nijmeegse Modo got released from top-quality-label Top Notch and paints a picture of the Netherlands from the Surinam background that the band members have. The result sounds exciting, like it’s driven by croy, the Surinam version of voodoo. We are already under their spell, thanks to those sick pounding beats and dark atmosphere.
