Thursday 15 January - De Spieghel
23:45 - 00:30 uur
They are from France, but moved to London to be part of the English band scene. It’s not quite sure if the sound of this pair can be described to be more French or British. The striking duo is not really wild, but it’s not right either to call their float-like, somewhat dirty rock, subtle. Take the British flair from the Kills, the American dirty sound of the White Stripes, the destructive creaking of Sonic Youth, the overwhelming sound of The Cure and the singing qualities including the sentiment of Serge Gainsbourg and his daughter. John & Jehn mix it until it’s a catchy whole, with a never-ending feeling for – almost silly – melancholy, because well… in the end they’re still French.
