How many people can say their debut got an eight on Pitchfork? Diskjokke can, a 27-year old producer from Oslo who caused a small sensation with his debut Staying In. Joachim Dyrdahl is able to use his background in mathematics (!) to construct a collection of songs that defy the borders of electro. He is already being compared with that other brilliant Norwegian: Lyndstrøm, but Dyrdahl has his own style. Calculating but still warm. Spacey but at the same time organic. diskJokke is a man of extremes. And a prankster, cause Diskjokke just stands for DJ.
"Bright, playful, spacey, and colorful, music for the nighttime that retains the warmth of an afternoon on the beach" (PITCHFORK)
"...a mini-masterpiece of handclaps, poignant piano notes, dubby synths, clattering drums, basslines that are by turns bubbling and mournful, techno bleeps, acid squelches and jacking rhythms that nod to classic Chicago house while sounding grooviliciousy Scandinavian…" (THE GUARDIAN)
“currently our nouveau disco album is this jolly affair from Oslo`s Joachim Dyrdahl. Hurrah!" (Uncut Magazine)
“Emotion-rich electronic disco epic” (IDJ MAGAZINE)
“The 28-year-old, classically-trained violinist stands out as one of the best new dance producers today” (Urb Magazine)
“This is music for fans of Giorgio Moroder, Hot Chip and Junior Boys. Staying In just might be the new going out if it's as much fun as this." - BBC.CO.UK
“Dyrdahl’s efforts on Staying In find disco, house, and techno beats mingling with textured, digestible melodies and intricately woven atmospherics”. PopMatters.com
“His spacey electro-disco is technically impressive and effortlessly appealing. It's rife with surgically straight percussion, oil-slick synths, bouncy bass, and eerie almost-vocal melodies — warm sounds with plenty of frigid antimatter, courtesy of judicious effects and pan envelopes, seething between them. ... DiskJokke studied classical violin and mathematics before turning to beats. The former is evident in his music's sweeping lyricism; the latter, in its cleanly schematized structures.” Pitchforkmedia.com album review (8.0/10)
